Reiki (pronounced "Ray-key") is a healing technique developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early twentieth century. It is based on the principle that universal life force energy can be channeled into a patient to activate the body's natural healing processes and restore physical and emotional well-being.
Animals have been found to be particularly receptive to Reiki therapy. In fact, there are thousands of animal lovers and pet owners around the world who have already discovered the healing power of Reiki. Family members happily report positive effects in their pet's general health and disposition and others observe the reduction in their pet's chronic pain and the acceleration in recovery from surgery or illness.
A Doctor's Opinion
Dr. Avenelle Turner, DVM, DACVIM (Diplomat of American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine) is the Head Medical Oncologist at the Veterinary Cancer Group of Los Angeles. She treats pets suffering from cancer and says according to eastern teachings, the flow in the body can restore well-being. "The Eastern perspective looks at qi which is the general flow that goes through our bodies. Reiki can affect that qi by aligning that energy and getting that energy to go to a more helpful path. The Chinese medicine from the Eastern perspective basically means if our energy is off it leads to illness, so if we can align that energy then we will effectively treat illness."

Top 10 Ways Reiki May Help Your Pet
Signs Your Animal is Accepting Reiki
Animals often relax when receiving Reiki energy. They may lay down, yawn or even fall asleep. It is important to have water available to them, as they often become very thirsty during and after a treatment. Water helps them to cleanse their system which helps restore balance.
Our pets are part of our families and we hate to see family members feeling badly, especially when we feel helpless to relieve some of their pain. Enter Certified Reiki practitioner, Bernie Hughes, who owns LoveHeals Reiki℠ in San Diego, California. Bernie has over ten years of Reiki experience treating people and animals, including dogs, cats, and horses. She founded LoveHeals Reiki after performing Reiki on several of her friend's pets. Having witnessed significant health improvements that bonded her with these unconditionally loving animals, she realized that Reiki was something that should be shared broadly. Today she spends her time committed to upgrading the health of animals using Reiki in conjunction with their routine holistic health and/or veterinary care.
It is important to know that Reiki can be performed in person or from a distance. Because it is not limited by miles, Reiki energy can be received just as effectively on the other side of the world as it can when the practitioner and animal are in the same room. Bernie does both in person and distance healing Reiki sessions, and her clients have reported that each type has had a tremendous impact on their pet's well-being.
Alleviate some of your pet's pain and anxiety by scheduling an in person animal Reiki session or a distance healing Reiki session with Bernie today!

Most animals tend to be much more comfortable and less stressed in a familiar environment, therefore I prefer to have our Reiki sessions at your home or barn, but am more than happy to have you visit my office as well, especially if you have a dog who loves a ride in the car. I also work at veterinarian offices. Animal Reiki healing sessions tend to last 45-60 minutes and will typically leave your pet relaxed and calm.
Distance healing sessions are as effective as in person sessions, and are often preferable to in person treatments if an animal is excitable, anxious around strangers, very ill or ready to transition. Distance treatments can also benefit in the case of an emergency as they can be easier to schedule. Please provide your pet's name and a photo, if possible. Sessions tend to last 45 minutes and are a super convenient way to help heal your pet.
It has long been recognized that animals pick up on our stress, emotions and health issues. That is why we offer My Pet & Me Reiki where both you and your pet participate in Reiki sessions designed to restore your well-being and balance your shared energy. These sessions are a great way to simultaneously improve your health as well as your pet's health ~ a true win-win.
Like people, each animal's needs are different. Depending on the situation, results can be seen immediately or within a day or two. Sometimes it is necessary for an animal to have several sessions over a short period of time or over several months. Multiple sessions are recommended, especially for pets recovering from surgery or senior pets in the end stages of life.
2 Sessions ~ Follow-up, maintenance and re-energizing, end stage pain
4 Sessions ~ On-going treatment and energy boosting
6 Sessions ~ Chronic pain management, aid recovery from surgery or illness

Tucker ate all of my Sour Patch Kids and other candy from graduation and was really sick. After we called poison control and they said he wouldn't die, we asked Bernie to help our dog. He felt so much better after she helped calm his stomach that he finally slept.

I'm so happy that we found Bernie through a friend. Our 14-year old cat had end stage kidney failure and Bernie provided so much visible comfort and pain relief that Sasha actually got up and ate something! I highly recommend Bernie if your pet is suffering.

I seriously injured my paw outrunning another dog and Bernie helped speed up my healing. Before my session, my paw was super sore and hurting badly, and afterwards, I was able to get around easier and with less distress.
-As told to my dad, Kevin S.
Bernie worked with Big Red and he loved her instantly. He was getting older and was starting to creak and she eased some of his obvious pain. We are so grateful for her loving work.

Maisey had two benign tumors removed and was in pain from the surgery. In addition to her meds, we had two reiki sessions and even her vet commented on her speedy recovery. She was so much less anxious after her treatments and I know the reiki helped. I would do it again for her.
